MOTOR SERVICE PROCEDURE & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

          1. Validate, settle and pay the order for the service concerned via our website. ( https://www.velolab.be/atelier-moteur ).

          2. Complet the motor support form received in the e-mail confirming your order. This form can be filled in and sent directly online. It asks for information about the engine and the symptoms observed (essential for monitoring your engine on delivery).

          3. At the end of the engine pick-up form, you'll find the address and instructions for sending the engine to our workshop. Please print out the copy of the maintenance formand add it to the box (parcel) containing your engine.

          4. You send the engine (at your own expense and responsibility, via the carrier of your choice) together with the form completed earlier.

          5. We carry out the work within five working days of receiving the engine.

          6. Once the work has been completed, you will receive an e-mail with a link to track the return of your engine.

The motor generation can be identified by its product code written on the engine (it is often necessary to remove the engine from the bike to see the label) BDU1xxx = GEN1 / BDU2xx = Gen2 ...

You can also find a visual description of the different generations of BOSCH motors here -->BOSCH TEC

1/ Confirm the order for the engine concerned via our website (the engine ordered must be exactly the same as the one you are exchanging). 2/ Send us ->motor support form HERE . This form can be completed and sent directly online. It asks for information about the engine and the bike, so that we can programme the new engine. 3/ At the end of the engine pick-up form, you'll find the necessary address and advice on sending the engine to our workshop. 4/ You send the engine (at your own expense and responsibility, via the carrier of your choice) . 5/We order the engine directly when we receive it. 6/ We receive and send you the new engine within 10 working days (except for unusual delays on the part of BOSCH).

Note: In order to deliver a new engine we are REQUIRED to return the old engine to BOSCH.

When an engine arrives for maintenance or repair, it generally takes three working days to complete the service. When demand is high, we can increase this to 4 or 5 days at peak times. The rest of the waiting time corresponds to the time spent in transport. Here is an approximation of an average delivery time (for non-express delivery) depending on your geographical area: Belgium = 1 working day / Countries bordering Belgium (FR/DE/LUX/NL) = 3 working days. England, Italy, Spain = 4 working days.

Sending information is given at the end of the -> form for engine management by HERE

Note: The sender is responsible for sending the engine to VéloLab.

For logistical reasons, we only provide our services in the EEA (European Economic Area).

WE DO NOT SEND ANY GOODS OR ENGINES TO COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT ENGINES FROM COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA.

We do not sell used engines. We can only offer a standard exchange of an old engine for a new one that is strictly identical to the one returned for exchange.

IMPORTANT NOTE: With the procedure put in place by BOSCH which consists of systematically recovering old engines and returning new ones.  It is highly probable that the second-hand engines present on the market are of dubious origin (EX: bike stolen and dismantled for sale in parts, bike damaged by floods...).

Unfortunately it is not possible to upgrade your engine at the time of purchase.

because the standard replacement supplied by BOSCH requires a motor to be returned that is strictly identical to the original one on the bike.

Here's the link to the engine dismantling and assembly instructions by HERE

NOTE: Dismantling and reassembling a bike motor from a frame requires the right know-how.

We do not modify the homologation of the engines we work on.

Yes, it is possible to drop off the motor or your complete bike during opening hours. If we receive the complete bike, we charge 49€ttc for the removal and refitting of the motor from the frame (also includes updating and checking the electrical system).

Ideally, you should always let us know by telephone or by using the contact form. HERE

Yes, we do accept engines with parts remaining that the customer is unable to dismantle for lack of tools or other reasons. In this case, we dismantle them for the job and then reassemble them.

Contrary to what some people say, VAE motors do need maintenance, and while it's true that the brushless motor doesn't rub and doesn't wear out, the same can't be said for the other components that make up the engine block, There are cascades of rotating gears that transmit the power of the rotor-motor and pedalling, which turn (quickly) on bearings and couple and uncouple thanks to the freewheels. It's a bit like a car gearbox with electronic controls. Over time and under the conditions of use, wear and tear occur, and without maintenance the risk of reduced performance or even breakage cannot be ruled out.

There are many reasons why a Bosch engine may need servicing or repair, for example, here are some examples and potential reasons:

          • Preventively, for example when the engine manufacturer's warranty expires (carry out preventive maintenance to avoid unpleasant surprises).
          • Noise. The engine makes an abnormal noise, such as the groaning of worn bearings, or the loud whistling of worn gears...
          • Misfires and/or interruptions to pedalling. Misfires can occur as a result of a freewheel no longer performing its normal function, as well as interruptions in pedalling torque pick-up...
          • Play. There may be radial play in the bottom bracket axle as a result of the bearings being out of order....
          • Completely blocked cranks, often due to a seized bearing or broken gear...

The motherboard in BOSCH motors is the motor's "identity card". When it is seriously damaged (error code 500, etc.) we are unable to replace it with a new one. In certain situations we are sometimes able to repair it, but often without any long-term guarantee.

The gears we replace are original, and the bearings we fit are mainly SKF / INA / ENDURO.

We only offer full service on complete engines!

We only sell parts that are included in our range byhere.

If you want to do it yourself, you can buy our bearing kits fromhere.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The parts listed in our online shop are the only references we can sell at retail. All other parts not listed on the site are replaced only as part of our engine services.

We systematically replace all the wearing parts listed in the motor service description. If another part, such as a shaft, steel gear, sensor, wiring, etc., is defective, we will also replace it (at no extra cost).

The service does not cover the replacement of the following electronic parts:

          • Electronic motherboard

          • Motor rotor

          • Motor stator

To carry out a reparability diagnosis, we need the engine concerned in our workshop (it is impossible to carry out a diagnosis by telephone, email, video, etc.). To ensure logistical follow-up, we ask you to place an order for engine maintenance beforehand.

The customer then has 3 options.

A: the motor is repairable -> we will carry out the maintenance and return the motor to you.

B: The motor is not repairable -> you place an order for a new motor and we refund the total amount paid for maintenance.

C: The motor is not repairable and you do not wish to place an order for a new motor -> we will return the motor to you and refund your maintenance order by deducting €60 inc. VAT (diagnosis & return packaging logistics costs) from the total paid for the maintenance order.

When faced with the situation of an unrepairable engine, we offer three options:

          A) We offer a standard exchange for a new engine that is strictly identical to the one we are replacing. This new engine comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.

          B) We will return the non-repairable motor at a cost of €60 inc VAT (this amount will be deducted from the amount of your order).

          C) We recycle the motor and refund the full amount of your order.

YES! When placing an order, professionals can select an intra-Community VAT number. If this number is valid, the invoice and payment will automatically be issued excluding VAT (Belgian professionals are invoiced with recoverable VAT).

We work on a fixed-price basis. No surprises, a fixed price whatever the situation! To find out about our fixed prices, go to the engine workshop menu.

Our workshop is classified S4 (standard for ultra-sensitive nuclear sites) and the Belgian CIA systematically refuses access to any unauthorised person in the workshop. Nevertheless, these false good reasons make it worth coming to our shop in Vielsalm for a good cup of coffee.😉
